Last full day in Torino

Tuesday, 14 November (Day Fifty-eight)

A strange feeling waking up today and knowing this was it. There was nothing on the must-do list other than packing and last-minute chocolate purchases.

And today the view of the Alps was spectacular – clearer than I’ve ever seen

After packing for what seemed like an eternity, off to the market to get that chocolate. Also on the list some marrons glaces, and some lemon pasta. Done and dusted.

We picked up some octopus salad and pizza to eat today and then some fritto misto as a last minute whim. We were already dreaming of a curry in London!

Then more packing! Krish has a slow but effective method and he was determined to make everything fit. To me, it’s like a huge tetris puzzle and I have no talent for such things.

So we decided to do one last trip and find something to pack for our long train journey. Sounds easy but proved to be a hard task. Somehow we made it over to Vanchiglietta – I’d be wanting to return there since that day earlier in our trip and finally we were getting there. Along the way, there were more lovely glimpses of the Alps.

Vanchiglietta is a trendy area with some interesting buildings, including the Gobino chocolate factory – we had hoped to visit there but couldn’t get an appointment. There’s also Pai Bikery – yes, one side is a bike sales and repair store and one side is a cafe-bakery. We also discovered a restaurant that seemed to have some interesting dishes on offer and close a tea shop with the same name. The tea shop was a real surprise. It was bustling and yes, its specialty was tea. Something to look for…next time! And there were some pretty cool looking restaurants too.

And we agree. There’s a lot more to see in Torino!

In the end, we buy bread, and a tray of mixed brie and speck and decided we’ll make our own sandwiches for the train.

Sorted and a teary goodnight!
